by Natalie Brown

Alternacirque moves its themed productions to the Riverwalk Ampitheatre in West Columbia this year. Our spring full-length show is entitled “Dreams,” and follows the adventures of a hapless dreamer caught between the feuding Queen of Dreams and the King of Nightmares.

“Dreams” is the culmination of five months of work–a surreal and ethereal show with integrated circus acts representing the finest alternative performance art in South Carolina and the Southeast.

This is an all-ages show. Tickets are $10 and will be available soon online. Shows are at 8 PM Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2. For more information, call 803.71-BELLY.

This production is made possible in part by a grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission.

Alternacirque’s first annual Circus Prom, Friday, March 11

by Natalie Brown

Alternacirque kicks off its fourth season with style with a new costume ball event we’re calling Circus Prom. The House in 5 Points is throwing open its doors with the demented musical stylings of Hellblinki, the throwdown Balkan dance party that is The Mezmer Society with the Day Late and Dollar Shortkestra, the demented delicacy of Robert Gowan from Wasted Wine and Discordia, and up close and personal circus performances by Alternacirque, Maria and Sipi from Biz’Cirque and aerials by Christy Smith. Much of the money brought in from this show will go to funding Alternacirque’s ambitious upcoming season, equipment, costuming, and training needs.

We would love if you would help us make Columbia a little more strange by dressing up to attend the ball, dancing like crazy, and bringing your creativity to the event. Dress code suggestions include formal, steampunk, Victorian, goth, circus punk, prom with a twist.

This event takes place Friday, March 11th at The House in 5 Points (behind Yesterdays and across from Goatfeathers), 2020 Devine Street, Columbia, SC. Doors at 8 PM. Tickets are $15 at the door. Advance tickets sales available soon. If you have any questions, please call Natalie at Alternacirque at 803-71-BELLY or email at alternacirque@gmail.com
